GSS·Frames is a quarterly room for justice-driven manga and documentary film — originals made inside the collective, with a short curated library gathering beside them.
Khartoum · 2023–2025 · 12 pages
One pot. One street. One country refusing to starve.
On 15 April 2023 the fighting between Sudan's SAF and RSF breaks open across Khartoum. The state apparatus for feeding anybody collapses within weeks. What stands in its place are the Emergency Response Rooms — decentralised, youth-led neighbourhood committees — and the takaya they run: communal kitchens cooked out of what the street can still find.
By mid-2024 the ERRs are serving hundreds of thousands of meals a day across the country. Across 2024–2025, famine is formally declared, cholera returns to Darfur, and foreign funding to the kitchens collapses. Many takaya are forced to close.
This is twelve pages inside one of the kitchens that stayed open. Characters are fictional; the events are documented.
For the volunteers of Sudan's Emergency Response Rooms — the neighbourhood committees who kept communal kitchens (takaya) open while the war closed everything else.
Over the next volumes we'll open a small curated library inside Frames — six justice-driven manga drawn from inside survival, and six documentary films that keep what the register will not. Each will land here with synopsis, tags, and a link to the publisher or distributor. These are the works we're preparing.
Hiroshima to Kobe to Seoul — six titles drawn from inside survival.
Indonesia to Angola to Aleppo — six films of the long now of empire.
